Hi,
Preparing for CDS requires combination of smartness and hard work. Do the right things to gain an edge over your competition:
*Get the right books
*Start preparing at least 10 months before
*Solve past year questions to test yourself on regular basis
*Cover the scoring sections early
*Cover the syllabus strategically. Don't go for a "prepare all" approach
*Balance all the papers
I would suggest you to spend quality time everyday by reading journals, magazines, newspapers, etc. You may also refer the books below:

You can go for higher studies like diploma in engineering. There are also specialized short-term courses for certain trades, offered in Advanced Training Institutes, which will enhance your skills.
Most industries/companies accept ITI graduates only as apprentices and they train them for a period of 6 months to 1-2 years, depending on the company. You may be considered suitable for employment only after the training period.
