Yes, diploma is equivalent to 12th and a bit more than that. So there are no drawbacks. just that you spend a year more completing the diploma (10+3). If you are confused about careers after 12th/ diploma, there are a few ways to approach this. One, is to go for a career counsellor who would take parametric tests and identify your strengths and weaknesses and advise career categories to attempt. Also, if you are very good with, and like maths and programming, you may opt for Computers (BTech or BCA). Whereas, if you are good with Drawing and Creative opt for Design (Animation, VFX, Games, Fashion). If you are good with words become a writer (content, news, fiction, ads) or director. If you are good with keeping records go for Accounts or Stats or administration. If you are good with logic and have patience go for Law. If you are good at memorizing and love nature and are caring go for medical. If you are good with people and are quick with decisions, go for Management. Candidates wishing to enter the navigational and engineering fields of Merchant Navy need to complete their B.Sc. degree in mechanical or marine engineering, before they can gain admission to the field. In some cases, students who have completed their 12th with PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) are eligible to join as Deck Cadets. Navigating Officers - Candidates will need to obtain a Certificate of Competency, as per the regulations in India relating to the examinations of Masters and Mates. Conducted by the Ministry of Surface Transport, in association with the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS) Mumbai, the examinations help determine the promotion prospects for the officers. For training, the best training institution for the navigating officers is the T.S. Chanakya. Candidates who qualify from here, that is complete their first certificate of competency of Second Mate, need to go through a three year training in Nautical Science (B.Sc.) and then complete a year's duration of practical training in the deck department of a merchant ship.Selection is based on the Joint Entrance Examination given by the IIT; a merit list is prepared after the written test and interview are completed and the Director General of Shipping has the authority to chose which of the 2 training programmes the candidate is best suited for (students can let their preference be known) Both the T.S. Chanakya and MERI institutions do help (under no Government obligations) in recruiting their graduates in suitable Indian Shipping Companies.As far as remuneration and other benefits are concerned Merchant Navy is one of the few careers where the salary is relatively high. The pay is definitely different from company to company, depending on the city, country, export and import needs, seniority etc.

A BBA (Bachelors in Business Administration) or a BBM (Bachelors in Business Management) is a graduate level management degree that is solely designed to enlighten student's management skills at the Bachelors level. The degree is designed to develop practical managerial skills, communication skills and business decision-making capability. Thus BBA/BBM institutes also assist students with summer internships in well known corporate organizations so that the student receives the much necessary industry exposure.
Career Prospects:
A BBA graduate can start off as an Executive, Associate, Business Development Manager or an Assistant manager in various organizations such as:

First of all I would say that before choosing any program or career field the most important thing which you should keep in mind is your own interests and career aspirations. However, after getting a bachelors degree in Management studies the best option is MBA but, apart from MBA the other programs or certifications you can opt for: CA, CWA, CFA, CFP, Masters in finance, and Masters in Finance& Accounting.
There are other short term programs in stock market etc. provided by NSE and other financial Institutes which you can opt for.
