Well both of the majors are very good, it is true that software usually pays more and that is because u can get involved in many project in different companies or work as independent contractor for yourself, computer engineering has a lot of electrical and hardware involved with it including some programing too but main aspects are hardware. if u like hardware and u wont mind studying hard physics, maths and electrical courses u can go to computers. but if u really not science fan and u actually like to make program's, see how they work, and u are more into software part of the computer that does not involve that much math and physics go to software.

Qualification:

PG in Engg. Sciences (eg. MCA/ M.Sc. Engg, M.Sc.(CS, IT, EE, Electronics, Instrumentation etc)
Post Graduates in Maths or allied areas (eg. Statistics, Applied Maths)
The candidates must have secured a minimum of 55% marks in their qualifying examination.
