Firstly, I would suggest you to take up work post the BE course. This gives you proper hands-on corporate exposure with whatever you have studied. As far as the distance courses are concerned, be sure to check the reason why you would want a distance course. Is there any reason, like to enhance your practical or specialised skills in mechanical field for job prospects? Or is it altogether a shift, like a distance MBA? If anyway you are ready for further studies, my suggestion would be to get a couple of years of real-life professional experience. Figure out things and then make a move.
For Masters, countries like Germany hold a great path ahead and if it's MBA, then yes, 1-year or distance or even distance + classroom modes are available.
