After diploma in engineering, you may join lateral B.Tech course in which you can directly enter into the second year. Degree course will open more opportunities for you.

Procedure :
To take admission, there is Lateral Entry Entrance Test or LEET which is conducted at state level. Some colleges and Universities too conduct their own lateral entry tests. You may directly contact the university officials as lateral entry criteria and admission procedure differs from one college to another.

Eligibility Criteria :
The basic eligibility criteria for a graduate degree is 10+2 with Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics as well as genetics as part of the biology
OR
a bachelors degree in science or molecular biology.

A qualified genetic engineer, must have a graduate / postgraduate degree in genetics or related fields such as biotechnology, molecular biology, microbiology or biochemistry.
Most institutes do not offer it as a special discipline but as a subsidiary in biotechnology, microbiology, biochemistry.
