IHM is the part of the government body, while IIHM is a private institution. Generally, there are not much difference, as it all depends on you and the efforts that you would be willing to put into your education and learning. IIHM, being a private institution will get you more coverage. If you have a low budget, then go for IHM. Placements are good in both are good in both the colleges.

Look, generally good institutes prefer students who have more than 60% throughout their educational career, there are others that accept 50% or above.
Few institutes consider candidates below 50% also but there are other parameters (like entrance tests, Interview rounds) as well that needs to be fulfilled.
