Yes, they actually encourage for internships we were engineering students and we got the government department internship for 3 months it was free we didn't pay anything for that and still got a Certificate out of it. We learned everything about the work of the electrical engineers.

As a passout student of Techno India University I can pretty much say that you should do this in the first year to learn and enjoy in the university together. First of all do not fear the seniors they will try to dominate you and do not enter in the politics it's pretty harsh in the university because I saw some of my friends did doing that and didn't even pass they got backlogs.
