Students wishing to pursue MBA or MCA courses in the state will have to take only the post graduate common entrance test (PGCET) instead of multiple exams for admissions under both the government and management quotas. The test, to be conducted by the consortium set up by the State government this year, will be held on June 30. At a press conference here on Tuesday, M.K. Sridhar, the consortium member, said that the test was the only one for admissions to MBA and MCA seats in the State. This will avoid duplication and reduce the number of tests that a student has to take. Prof. Sridhar said that only test scores would be allotted to the students who want to obtain seats under the management quota, while government-quota seat aspirants would have to participate in the counseling conducted by the consortium for seat selection. Non-Karnataka students were eligible to select only the management-quota seats and seats surrendered by the management, he said.

It depends on what were your courses in 11th and 12th. A career in a similar stream which you had in your 11th and 12th will help you succeed better. Commerce and Science are the two broad categories. In commerce, you can go for arts/design, business, finance and banking.
In Science, you have engineering and medical. These are the traditional streams students choose. Some new streams are also in demand nowadays like bio- tech, Nano technology, agriculture and genetic. Students are also moving in fashion designing and interior designing. We have B.Arch. exam for such students. Research oriented students can go for KVPY and get into institutes like IISC, IISERs. Commerce students also go for CA.
So, there are courses like typical mechanical/electrical and computer Science in engineering to newer ones like hotel management and fashion designing. You can opt for any of these as per your interest.
