Cardiovascular perfusionis the Science of providing extracorporeal circulation in order to artificially support and temporarily replace a patient's respiratory and circulatory systems. Clinical Perfusionists are expert members of the cardiac surgical team, and provide life savingsupport of patients requiring extra corporeal circulation, including but not limited to majorcardiothoracic, vascular and transplant surgeries, as well as support of the critically-ill patient.

Cardiovascular Perfusionists are important members of the open-heart surgical team whoseprimary role is to conduct cardiopulmonary bypass using a heart-lung machine and otherancillary equipment. They closely monitor the patient's blood flow and other vital signs duringopen heart surgery and are also responsible for administering intravenous fluids, bloodproducts and anesthetic drugs. Colleges that provide this course are Amrita institute of Medical Science St John's Medical College etc. This is a relatively new course and hence there is less demand for this course in India right now, but it has sufficient scope outside the country
