Journalism is the activity, or product, of journalists or others engaged in the preparation of written, visual, or audio material intended for dissemination through public media with reference to factual, ongoing events of public concern. It is intended to inform society about itself and to make events public that would otherwise remain private.
Journalism is the practice of investigating and reporting events and information to a mass audience through the use of media. Traditionally, forms of media were limited to newspapers, magazines, radio, and television. Today, journalism also includes reporting information online, whether it be for a website, blog, or social media platform.
The field of journalism generally includes writing, editing, and photography. In addition to these basic journalistic functions, many journalists also posses exceptional skills related to research, design, interviewing, fact checking, and marketing, in order to be successful in their practice.
The purpose of journalism is to educate and inform the public with relevant and timely information.
