To get into actuarial science you need to have a strong background in maths and statistics.
It is used largely in credit and insurance industries that need to use risk on an ongoing basis. The Actuarial Science examinations can be done through the ASI (Actuarial Society of India). Once qualified, most actuaries are employed by the insurance companies — national and multinational.
Eligibility Criteria :
A person is eligible to be considered for admission as student member if he / she satisfies the following conditions .
1. Should have completed 18 years of age
2. Should have attained anyone of the following Educational Standards
a. Passed 10+2 (H.S.C) or equivalent with at least 85% in Mathematics / Statistics
b. Graduate or Post Graduate in Maths/Stats/Econometrics
Major Actuarial Science Examinations in India:
The admission for the Actuarial science course will be based on the merit scored in the entrance exam held by the various institutions. List of entrance exams are given below.
-Actuarial science entrance exam
-Institute of Actuaries of India entrance exam
-Actuarial society of India entrance exam
Career:
Actuarial Science is a promising field and just after clearing 3 to 4 papers, students are absorbed as trainees in the insurance and other Actuarial Science application companies.
According to IRDA (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority), every life insurance company should have a full-time appointed Actuary.
The LIC may require 200 more Actuaries in the future while private life insurance companies would require around 220 Actuaries. In the long run, at least six Actuaries will be required by every player in the private sector.
