Anchor is a program host. Anchoring is the art of presenting or delivering a program. It is, in other words introducing the audience to the program.
*Training in anchoring, comparing, hosting is offered through media training institutes, acting academies, drama schools etc. Some examples are:
IAAN School of Mass Communication (New Delhi), Asian Academy of Film & Television (AAFT), Pran's Media Institute (New Delhi), Center for Research in Art Of Film and Television (New Delhi), Sadhna Academy for Modern Studies (Noida)
A course for compering is conducted by Xavier Institute of Communications in Mumbai and is called ABCD which stands for Announcing, Broadcasting, Compering and Dubbing.
For All India Radio and Doordarshan selection is made on the basis of a written test. Voice test, screen test and interview for All India Radio and for TV are also taken. The test may involve writing announcements, presentation of scripts for special programs, audiences, etc.

TV news anchors present news in different languages - foreign, national and regional languages.
Program anchors specialize in entertainment programs such as award shows, music & dance shows, comedy shows, reality shows, cooking, sports, crime reports or talk shows and debates etc.
Anchor should keep the audience engaged for maximum response.
Anchor needs to be charged up, passionate, enthusiastic and should possess detailed knowledge of issues. The nature of the programme determines the anchor's conduct.
