She can either pursue B.Sc in geology or B.Sc in earth science. This field is still in an infant stage in India, but according to experts this field will have a great scope in India in future. Geologists and earth scientists are in great demand in Australia and New Zealand. So, if she is really interested in this field, there is nothing better than becoming a geologist.

HI Suyash,
It is not a mandatory thing to do - however, best would be to be a part of an NGO to support your profile - concentrate more on your grades in India and your SAT/TOEFL Scores.

Dear Karandeep,
With such a gap it might be difficult to get admission itself, however, suggest you apply as it won't cost you much or rather may be free also if there is no application fee for the university / college where you are applying. If you get admission then try for the visa, if the visa officer is satisfied with your explanation then you have a chance of getting a visa. I will suggest you to use the services of a good education consultant as for NZ as it will help and you will not be charged any consultation fee.
All the best!
