However, if you are talking about SMU's programme of Diploma in Hospitality & Catering Management, yes, it is a correspondence programme and it is the institutes decision which programme should be correspondence and which should be regular, so there is no answer to why.

As you have already started your studies in IME suggestible would be that you continue with your course and complete it. As far as getting admission is concerned I don't see that you would face any problem getting admission after completing IME Technician course.
