The colleges offer scholarships (mainly the parental income which should be less than INR. 2 lacs per annum). Also, on basis of your performance, you will be awarded some merit/stipend by the college administration. You have to research a lit in details about the same.

If you are class 12th pass from a recognized school, and you have taken a break of 1 year, then there is no problem about the gap.
