Actuarial science is the use of mathematical and statistical models in taking financial decisions by assessing risk.
It is used largely in credit and insurance industries that need to use risk on an ongoing basis. Actuarial Science is mainly offered as a three year degree course by some universities, or as one of the subjects of a degree programme. There are also short term courses in insurance or actuarial science, ranging from six months to two years.
