To get admission in an IIM, you need to go through the following procedure:
1. You should prepare well for the Common Aptitude Test (CAT) exam, which is normally held in November end or December first week. You can join any reputed coaching class, if needed.
2. Register for the same and pay the required exam fees.
3. Appear for the exam and give your best shot.
4. Then start preparing for the interview rounds, which consists of a WAT (Written Aptitude Test) and a PI (Personal Interview).
5. Once cleared the cutoffs of the IIMs, you will be shortlisted based on your score and profile.
6. Appear for the interview, and perform well.
7. On successfully clearing the interview rounds too, you will be finally given admission.

It depends upon your interest as well as your personal conditions.
Honestly speaking, these days the amount of B.Tech and B.E. students has gone so high that it won't be wrong if anybody says they are in the same condition in terms of worth as B.Com or B.Sc graduates were considered till 4-5 years back. If the B.E./B.Tech student can get into some of the major PSUs then its well and good but if you get into private job then that can be frustrating in long run. After getting into private firm if you don't improve or increase your certifications (certifications too have levels like level 1, 2, 3, etc) then you might feel stuck.
Whether you choose to go for a job or not, you will have to go for higher studies or certifications at some point of time. Some people consider making money for better financial stability before going for the higher education. For such individuals sometimes it becomes a source of confidence and motivation. Everybody's management skills are different, some people find it too difficult to manage studies alongside job so for them once they are into job then either they will have to continue with the job or they will have to quit it to prepare for further studies. Some people don't find it difficult to manage their studies while being in the job, they are able to make schedule of regular studies no matter how busy their office schedule gets.
