Both NIT Rourkela and NIT Calicut are famous for their strong reputation and top quality education. Both colleges are ranked by NIRF. Admission to BTech courses at both NITs are done through valid score in accepted entrance exams such as CAT, JEE Main, GATE etc. Both colleges are very good in their own way. National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela offers various undergraduate, postgraduate, Doctoral, Executive PhD and other courses to students. It has 20 departments under which these courses are offered. Moreover, BTech is the flagship course of NIT Rourkela. Some other popular courses offered by the university are MTech, M.A. and others.  Admission to the offered programmes at NIT Rourkela is either through entrance examinations (for example, JEE Mains/ GATE/ IIT JAM) or based on merit. The students of NIT Rourkela can apply for scholarships offered by the National or State Government. PhD scholarship/ fellowship is also offered to students by the institute. Below mentioned are the details of some of the NIT Rourkela Scholarships:

1. Post-Matric Scholarship (PMS): SC/ ST students are eligible for Post-Matric Scholarship (PMS) of the respective State Governments if they satisfy the norms set by the State Government.
2. Top Class Scholarship: Among the admitted students in the first year top 12 SC students and top 5 ST students are eligible for the scholarship by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, GOI and the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, GOI provided their parental annual income is below INR 4.5 lakh.
3. GATE Scholarship: Students who have taken admission through GATE are eligible for a scholarship of INR 8,000 per month.
4. PhD scholarship: A PhD student with MTech/ MPharm degree and within the age limit is eligible for an Institute research fellowship for four years. The students will get INR 31,000 per month for the first two years and INR 35,000 per month for the next two years on satisfactory performance.
