The Hexose MonoPhosphate Shunt is also known as Pentose Phosphate Pathway (PPP). This is alternative glucose oxidation pathway. The hexose monophosphate pathway is used for production of NADPH from NADP. The NADPH is required for biosynthetic reactions such as fatty acid synthesis, cholesterol synthesis, drug reduction, and as a cofactor for some non-synthetic enzymatic reactions. Hi Hrishikesh,
Tough or easy is specific to an individual, while some may find it fascinating and easy to grasp, some may find it tough. It depends on what interests you more. Junior level geology programs does not include too much mathematics, it would be good for you, if you are interested in a little amount of sketching, etc.
Upper level programs will however include a fair amount of mathematics and also physics. Also, figure out if you would be interested with field work. Visit university websites and research well on the program structure. Speak with your teachers and experts in this field for more clarity.
