Should I drop a year for the preparation of JEE Mains exam or opt for B.Tech after completing Polytechnic?

It depends on you. If dropping one year makes yourself sure that yes, you can take admission in a good IIT then dropping 1 year is fine but after even investing your one year if you are not getting into IIT or not getting desired job it is truly waste. You can get the admission. Your job will be done on your smartness and your knowledge. Either you take admission through JEE Mains or through lateral entry. It hardly matters if you are career oriented.

Exactly from my point of view, you should drop 1 year. This will lead to your best performance in next JEE exams.

Syllabus of Polytechnic is oriented more towards practical application rather than theory. So you will have to study that more as compared to those who will appear after class 12th. Similarly, if you take class 12th and JEE Mains & Advanced in the the same year you have comparatively less time.
