None of the PG Diploma courses offered , by the likes of NMIMS , Symbiosis School of Continuing Education , Sikkim Manipal University , Wellinger Institute , ever give or say that their PGDBM are equivalent to MBA. Infact most of these institutes do not allow students from their distance management programs to enroll in their regular higher studies program . Note here , distance PGDBM students are also not eligible for any Public sector jobs applications , NET , SLET examinations , PHd or Fellowships later . This also includes the very costly 1 year Program in Management from IIMs . Knowledge wise though the IIM program are good , but academically not of any value . My perspective after researching on this for a long time is the following . Try to do it from an UGC recognized Central University or state University . The course should be recognized by UGC, AICTE and DEB . And as many people note , distance MBA is not recognized by employers is not TRUE . It is valued by employers if as I already noted , you have sizable work experience , thereby indicating that you are ready to adapt and learn new things through continuing education. These are the institutes from where yo should your Distance MBA 1) Pondicherry University 2) IGNOU 3) University of Madras , Institute of distance Education 4) Bharathidasan University - Center for Distance Education 5) Alagappa University, Tamilnadu 6) Bharthiyar University 7) NMIMS Executive Part time MBA You cannot learn MBA by giving exams in the objective type questionnaire model . None of the above institutes have exam in the objective model . MBA knowledge can be gained only when you give exams in case study model like regular MBA courses.

I agree will sakshi's points. More disadvantages i would like to add: 1. Chances of distraction high 2. Hidden costs 3. Complicated technology 4. Quality of faculty compromised 5. Questionable credibility of degrees 6. Lose out on networking
