What are the career & job prospects in India for Aircraft Maintenance Engineering?

Aircraft Maintenance Engineer or AME is the person who has been licensed to work on the maintenance aspects of civilian aircraft by DGCA. There are plenty of institutes which impart this training which normally is a 3-year B.Sc course. As per the report of IATA as well as DGCA, passenger traffic, as well as cargo traffic, is increasing every month. This, in turn, has prompted many Indian carriers to place orders with either with Boeing or Airbus for a passenger as well cargo aeroplanes. The large induction just around the corner will definitely result in increased demand for AME's to maintain these aeroplanes. This appetite is expected to continue at least in near to medium term in future. To conclude, it is definitely a fact that career and job prospects for AME's in India is on the upswing and are expected to remain this way.

The aviation industry in India is set to increase by three times in the next decade alone. More than 800 new planes are on order for various airlines in India and on their way to be delivered by 2025. With all these new aircrafts and airlines coming in, there will be a huge need for manpower for various aspects of aviation. One of the most important aspects is the maintenance of these aircrafts as ICAO and DGCA have set certain rules where an aircraft needs timely maintenance in order for it to be always fit to fly. An AME or an aircraft maintenance engineer's task is to repair and maintain every single nook and cranny of an aircraft and he/she is responsible for the well being and worthiness of the aircraft. WIth all these aircrafts coming in, there is gonna be a huge demand for AMEs as well and right now, many institutes in India and running DGCA regulated courses for AME divided into mechanical and avionics. One can choose any of the good aviation colleges to pursue such courses and there are even campus placements at some colleges.

The aviation industry has two main branches: flying branch and maintenance branch. While pilots fly the aircraft, aircraft maintenance engineers are concerned with the maintenance of the aircraft.
