What are the career prospects in India and abroad after the completion of a UG/PG course in Archaeology ?

A multidisciplinary Science, archaeology incorporates knowledge of geology, anthropology, history, etc. Archaeologists go into major periods of human activity to understand its influences on life by studying old monuments, inscriptions, excavation sites, etc. Archivists examine papers to find archival proof. It is a specialised area of the humanities with little employment options for archivists and archaeologists. The majority of positions in this profession are found in government agencies or educational institutions. The majority of archaeology graduates and postgraduates are employed with the Archaeological Survey of India and state archaeology departments.

Archaeology is a multi-disciplinary Science integrating knowledge of geology, anthropology, history etc. Archaeologists study old monuments, inscriptions, excavation sites, etc. , delving into significant phases of human activity to study its influences on life. Archivists study documents for finding historical evidence. It is niche branch of Humanities with very limited opportunities as Archaeologists and Archivists. Most of the jobs in the field are in Government organisation or Educational Institutes. Archaeological Survey of India and State Archaeological Departments employs majority of graduates and postgraduates of Archaeology. Graduates also may get job opportunities in Travel and Tourism industry.
