In India, B.Tech. /B.E. Chemical Engineering programme is of four year duration, comprising of eight semesters. The programme curriculum primarily includes basic Science courses, engineering Science courses, humanities and social sciences, professional core courses, and professional elective courses. Basic and engineering Science courses include Physics Chemistry mathematics, Biology engineering graphics and mechanics, etc. Professional core courses essentially covers the courses like Thermodynamics transport courses (momentum, heat, and mass transfer), chemical reaction engineering, computer aided design of chemical process equipment, automation and process dynamics, etc. The courses on the advanced areas like biotechnology, nano-technology, membrane separation, advanced oxidation processes, etc. Are offered as professional electives. Besides the courses like communication skill, professional ethics, professional skill development, project economics, industrial management and practices, etc. Are also taught under broad heading of humanities and social sciences.
