According to the most recent CBSE 10th exam pattern, 20% of the questions will be multiple-choice questions (MCQs), 30% will be short- or long-answer questions, and 50% of the questions will be competency-based (MCQs, source-based, case study-based, etc.). On its official website, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has disclosed the CBSE Class 10 exam pattern 2026. The 2026 CBSE Class 10 test format is identical to that of the previous year. At cbseacademic.nic.in, CBSE publishes the CBSE class 10 syllabus, sample paper, and exam pattern for 2026.

The CBSE 10th exam pattern in 2024 (100 marks) emphasizes skills over rote learning. Theory exams (80 marks) now include 50% competency-based questions (MCQs, case-based, source-based) alongside 20% MCQs and 30% short/long answer questions. This assesses understanding and knowledge application.

The Board is initiating potential changes in the Examination and Assessment practices for the academic session 2025 in line with the recommendations mentioned in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The major features of CBSE 10th exam pattern 2025 are:

Competency Focused Questions in the form of MCQs/Case Based Questions, Source-based Integrated Questions or any other type = 50%
