Database is one of the basis or foundation for any applications or developing any data-intensive applications. Today as you can hear and see savvy's talking about tomorrow's predictions like Bigdata, Hadoop, datawarehouse, Analytics etc., which are data centric. Any certified or trained courses from Oracle, Mysql, MS-SQL can certainly get you a winning career track to start with as a Database administrator, PL/SQL developer etc and then grow bigger.
Trust i could throw some light.
