The cost of living for students in South Africa is very affordable, in comparison with india it would be like staying in any metro cities like Mumbai/ Delhi/ Bangalore etc. South Africa is a beautiful and clean country. You can get everything easily and at a reasonable cost.

Costing will mostly be on the basis of your lifestyle. Rough estimation for per month to live a normal life will be approximately between INR 30,000/- to INR 35,000/- in South Africa. Accommodation: INR 20,000 (approximately)
    Food: INR 4,000 (approximately)
    Transport: INR 7,300 (approximately)

As in any country, the cost depends on what kind of luxuries you are used to. If you know how to live within your means, living is SA would not be a problem at all as the cost of living is almost similar to India, with maybe about 20% higher margin.

Living standard in South Africa is very good. It's a very quiet place with beautiful sceneries around you. Cost of living is cheaper than other countries. Indian spices are available everywhere. South African / South African Indians are very friendly and they help more than our relatives. No traffic, no pollution.
English is the most commonly spoken language so there is no language barrier.

South Africa is the most popular study abroad destination. Pretoria, Johannesburg and Cape Town are popular destinations in South Africa, Luckily, compared to many of the other possible study abroad destinations, living cost still remain relatively affordable for students in South Africa. As an added benefit, students have options when it comes to finding affordable accommodation.

I found South Africa to be a very affordable country. In fact I had a wonderful experience there. Everything about South Africa was great. A wonderful place for students, especially as the people there are very warm and friendly. I had a very comfortable stay there and since English is spoken widely there, language was not a barrier at all.

Comparing India to Johannesburg, the cost of some luxury items and services such as dining out and cinema tickets are between 35% and 50% lower in South Africa. Clothing and consumer items like electronics are closer in price, but marginally cheaper in South Africa. Whilst areas of the country remain very underdeveloped, the prosperity of popular areas of major cities has caused property and rental prices in suburbs of Johannesburg and Cape Town to rise sharply in the last decade. With both the domestic and expats markets occupying a lot of the same areas, the demand driven price rises will probably continue for the foreseeable future.

South Africa is one of the best study destinations if you are looking for an International MBA of the highest level but within a budget. Since it is a developing nation it gives you the options of finding the best placement opportunities and availability of skilled jobs is very high. Cost of living is quite comparable to India so if in Mumbai the per month hostel charges are around INR 8000 per month, in South Africa it would be around INR 12000. Same with food. It depends on your dietary preferences and all types of Indian food is available and if you can cook, it's quite cheap.
