What is the difference between journalism and mass communication?

Mass communication deals with the procedure of conveying or transmitting a message to the general population through media like radio, newspapers, magazines, television, internet and so on. However, journalism is concerned with the compilation and transmission of news through the print media and electronic media. LPU School of Journalism and Film Production organized a national conference on Contemporary Perspectives in Design and Creative Arts' (CPDCA 2018) to have a holistic understanding of issues relating to space, forms, frugality, sustainability and functionality in design and creative arts. The conferences provides a platform for scholars and professionals to share and discuss the innovations and development in the field of design and creative arts. LPU students shared how the conference benefited them by expanding their knowledge about design and creative arts and how words of renowned artists and designers widened their perspective on different forms of art. LPU gives a good platform to its students and wide exposure to show case their talent especially when world famous dignitaries come and student interview the. They gain many tie ups this way and enter the market. The students are working in the ANI, Radio Mirchi, NDTV, News9 etc.

Mass communication deals with the procedure of conveying or transmitting a message to the general population through media like radio, newspapers, magazines, television, internet and so on. However, journalism is concerned with the compilation and transmission of news through the print media and electronic media. And based on the different mediums, the field of journalism can be divided into three broad categories namely the print (I. e. the newspapers and magazines), electronic (I. e. T. V. and radio) and online journalism. So based on your interests you could even choose for a course specific to one of these mediums. As for mass communication there are media fields such as that of theater, radio, T. V. , filmmaking, journalism, advertising, public relations and others. In short mass communication covers a broad area of media while journalism focuses only on news. One can have a degree in journalism and mass communication from a good college and can enter in this profession. LPU is an international university with top placements and world class infrastructure and faculty. LPU is offering various scholarships to students in this pandemic condition. LPU has floated COVID-19 Front-line Scholarship for COVID survivors and their dependents as well which is the best possible effort it can provide to target every aspirant in this current scenario. One such college that I know is Punjab College of Technical Education where I have seen many students doing this degree. PCTE college is known for imparting practical knowledge and guiding its students to be professional, where you would be indulged in handling professional gadgets that are used in print and electronic media. Besides this, you would be taught how to make professional videos using technical software, you would learn how to click photographs using a professional camera and also would also get hands-on experience about various techniques. Not only this you would be handling a YouTube channel along with a colleges radio channel.

A degree in Mass Communication would be great if you want a broader set of skills in your bag, while a degree in Journalism can help if you are clear about your goal of building a career in Journalism.
