What is the difference between mass communication, journalism and mass media? How are the three inter-related?

Mass communication is related to the semantics of communication. Journalism is about news making, print or electronics. Mass media comprises of all the modes of mass medium, television, radio, internet, film, newspaper, etc. The three are inter-related because no matter which course you do among these there will some of all in it.

<p>Hello Mohd Reyansh,</p><p>Although these are inter - related and depends on each other in some ways. <strong>Journalism </strong>has little limited aspects as compare to <strong>mass communication</strong> and <strong>mass media</strong>.</p><p>Journalism get closes to just <strong>media houses</strong> but nowadays I have noted even journalism is getting a deep insight and full recognition. Mass communication and mass media are approximately same. It just mean a study of all the mediums that are used for communication. How we use them? Why they are important? What new or innovations have been introduced in communication system or patterns etc.</p><p>You will learn a best trick to communicate with wide audience. It's history, why communication is useful. Why and how it's used in business communication?</p><p>Whereas journalism would teach you to be a good journalist. A person who is jack of all trades. Means you should have a tight grip over your thoughts, language, knowledge and alertness. It helps you to make a punctual and good journalist. In both the cases language is important.</p><p>A student should possess a good command over the language he/she prefers. Basic knowledge of both Hindi and English is needed. Your accent and fluency means a lot. In journalism knowledge matters the most.</p><p>Thank you!</p>

Mass Communication and Journalism are two different aspects of the same thing, to quite an extent. Let’s take an analogy to understand better: If Mass Communication is Italian cuisine, Journalism can be thought of as pasta (one of the dishes in Italian cuisine). Or simply put, Mass Communication is an umbrella term that includes many fields such as Advertising, Event Management, Public Relations, etc., one of which is Journalism. The rest of the differences between them lie in primarily two categories: Differences in courses and curriculum Differences in career opportunities There are ample number of courses that give you the knowledge and the platform to get into Mass Communication and Journalism. Many of these degrees are common to both Mass Communication and Journalism, and will allow you to branch out into any field you choose. There are many other degrees that focus on one or the other, I. e. pure Mass Communication or pure Journalism. Here are a few most common courses for Mass Communication and Journalism: BJMC- Bachelor of Journalism & Mass Communication BMMMC- Bachelor of Multimedia & Mass Communication BMC- Bachelor in Mass Communication B.A (Mass Communication)- Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication BJ- Bachelor in Journalism B.A (Journalism) - Bachelor of Arts in Journalism BSMC- Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication The names of the degrees vary depending upon the college/university in question. Besides these, there is also an upcoming concept of Liberal Arts Education, where one can pursue mass communication and/or Journalism with a mix of electives like psychology, sociology, English, legal studies, international relations, history, etc.
