An MD course is a professional degree awarded to students who undergo medical school and qualify to practice medicine. The usual duration of an MD course is four years of medical school after attaining a bachelor's degree.
On the other hand, DM is a higher degree in medicine, reflecting superspecialization and expertise in a subject. Normally, one does an MD degree, followed by residency work and then takes up a DM course. DM courses are generally subspecialty-oriented subjects in medicine like cardiology, gastroenterology, neurology, etc.
