Imperial College was born out of the Royal College of Chemistry, which was founded in 1845 with the help of the President of the Council - Prince Albert. In 1853, the Royal College of Chemistry was merged with the Royal School of Mines. In the 1880s, the college's infrastructure improved drastically, with the expansion of facilities and pathology laboratories. In 1881, the Royal College of Science came into existence and in 1887, the Imperial Institute was established.
