Which are the best test series for CAT preparation and why?

Let me make it clear that I too have my own test series for CAT which I create. So could be little biased. Obviously I believe that my test series is best. As I take enough time per question to make it like a CAT like question - which is difficult. But since I am answering the question, I will put aside my test series and focus mainly on the test series of IMS, Time and CL. Can't comment on others as I don't have much idea. For the verbal section I would rate IMS the best. From what I have heard from the students who have cracked CAT, they really liked the quality of Verbal section of IMS. Here IMS &get; CL &get; Time For the Quant section, CL would be better than the other two. Their questions are more closer to the type of questions CAT makes. As a matter of fact a lot of questions of CL are inspired by the previous CAT questions. In this section I would rate CL &get; IMS &get; Time For DI/LR the more you practice different type of sums the better it is as it is quite unpredictable what type of questions will come in the exam. In this case all the three test series are more or less similar in nature. Here again I don't like the quality of Time questions and would rate the other two better. CL/IMS &get; Time I don't like the Time test series because they don't seem to have made a proper research of the CAT paper before they make the paper. CL has a good team on the top (unfortunately they have not been able to pass on this expertise at the centre level) . Gautam Puri has a great understanding of CAT and Gejo (whom I have worked with) is excellent. Overall I would rate the CL test series best among the three followed by IMS. So overall CL &get; IMS &get; Time. I would recommend students to solve test series of different classes. Each class has a different style and solving different test series helps to understand different styles. The actual exam is difficult to predict and could be closer to any of the test series that are available. If you are a group of friends, you could join different test series and then share. Each solving a few tests from the different test series. All the best.

Career Launcher is the best out of main 3 institutes: CL, IMS and TIME. IMS and TIME are of higher difficulty level which is not at all required. You just end up wasting your time if you start analyzing mock because they contains questions from the topics which CAT will never ask. Like in quant, very difficult questions from SET theory, PnC, finding last 3 digits, etc. which will never appear in CAT. You end up doing lot of unnecessary topics and difficult formulas. CAT just checks your problem solving ability under pressure, it does not check how many formulas you can mug up or difficult questions you can solve. Also, many times you will end up losing your hope and confidence due to these tests if you are average student. It’s better to go with CL as difficulty level is closest to CAT which makes lot of sense. Your percentile actually reflects how much you can score in CAT and you can prepare your strategy based on exam.

The test series in which most students enrol and are exhaustive are the ones to opt for. In my opinion, CL and TIME have the highest number of students enrolled for the test series. Hence, the performance in the mock tests gives you a fair idea of your performance and one could predict one's level of preparation. So, I would rate them as the top two. Now, if you slice the test series on the basis of the components of CAT, ie QA/DI and VA/LR, I would say that TIME has a more balanced test series for QA/DI section, whereas, CL has a more balanced VA/LR section. That said, opting for any one of these is going to suffice your prep. At the end of the day, it isn't about the number of tests/mocks you take but how well you prepare for them. So, just opt for any one of these two, and you're good to go and ace the CAT. Hope the answer helped.

CAT is an exam which has maintained its standard for years. Although there are a lot of test series out there, it would be difficult to point out anyone name that would certainly take you over the line. CAT is more about practice than anything else; not letting you drop your guard at any point of time. Any test series would be able to do that for you. You can check out CL, IMS, TIME (although I do not prefer TIME because of its abnormally high standards). There are many test series available for CAT. I will tell you about my experiences with each of them. TIME: Time AIMCATS are all India level mock test. These are attempted by most of the CAT aspirants across the country. This means that the [percentile you score in these is a better indicator of where you stand compared to any other mock test series. But TIME mock tests are of higher difficulty level than actual CAT. In a way, it can help you to be prepared for the unexpected. But it should definitely not lower your confidence levels if you score low. IMS: IMS test series are pretty good. They are not very tough. It can be used as an additional resource. CL: These are the best test series I have attempted. The VARC section is very good. The difficulty level is good and comparable to CAT. CL also has a test gym which has an exhaustive number of questions of all the sections and topics. This really helped me to practice all types of questions. I would suggest you focus more on the approach that you are using while solving problems rather than your score. You should do a thorough analysis of every mock test you give and try to identify your strengths and weakness. Try to work on your weakness but don't forget to also play to your strengths.
