Hi,
CAT (Common Admission Test) is mainly a computer-based exam started by the IIM institute. Therefore, when you attend IIM and if you have the required scores, IIMs would possibly invite you to apply in their institute.
However, there are many other educational institutes that accept CAT scores. In order to get admission in these institutes other than IIMs, you need to apply separately through their online portals or using their application forms. Yes, you need to apply separately for B-schools other than IIMs like SPJIMR, MDI, FMS, JBIMS and other top B-school which are accepting CAT score card too.
Like IIMs conduct the CAT for admission into PGP there are various other B-school which are shortlisting candidate on the basis of score obtained in CAT but only when you apply to those institute with separately filled application form and paying their separate application fees. You will need to apply to all the B- Schools in which you are interested except IIMs. All IIMs will consider your application of CAT for admission but other B-Schools only use the CAT score for admission and you have to apply to them separately.
