In Engineering, mathematics is the common subject for all streams for the 1st year and then subjects get different depending on the core stream. But in case of mechanical engineering you need to have strong base in Mathematics and Physics. So, if you want you can go for mechanical engineering. Some of the good engineering colleges are JNU, CV Raman, Lovely Professional University etc.

Maths is a very important subject in BE and B-tech but it is not a determinant of your branch choice. I have seen people quitting due to wrong choices. Moreover you should go to some counselor and fill tests for determining your aptitude if you are not clear about it. You can find such tests for free on internet too. Every branch from a reputed institutes IIT's IIIT's, IISC's, NIT's, BITS, VIT, SRM, LPU, and other Central universities(look for placements), have almost equal opportunity for a good student.
