Both the courses are good. Having a biotechnology degree opens up many more doors in various fields like industrial processes, management jobs while microbiology jobs are more research oriented. You also have an option of doing an MBA in Biotechnology, which a new and emerging field of work. The job market while not absolutely lucrative is growing with the biotechnology sector on the increase in India. There are jobs in the agricultural, pharmaceuticals, medical and various other fields, making it a very flexible subject.

One of the most important decisions affecting your academic career would be choosing between the two courses. Yet it simply is based on the study's level. Biotechnology is a better alternative if you want to pursue a Master's degree because it gives you a lot of PG options, in my opinion. But, as microbiology is a specialist programme and offers considerably more career chances quickly, you should choose it if you want to look for a job as soon as you graduate.
