Both NIU & UIUC are considered part of the best universities in the region. However, both are selective at granting admissions to its students, to varying extents. The NIU acceptance rate stands at 70% while that of UIUC is around 45%.  Thus, the Northern Illinois University is relatively less selective at granting admissions as compared to University of Illinois-Urbana.

Despite that, interested candidates must still perform well in academics & university entrance exams to have a good chance of securing a seat at either institute.
