They both have their advantages depending on the pipeline/industry you are intending to be a part. But as far as Animation goes Maya is considered the best tool. -
3Ds Max is clearly almost as sophisticated (feature-packed) as Maya. It is the easiest software for learn easily. 3DS Max is a specialised 3D computer graphics programme from the Media and Entertainment division of AutoDesk, Inc., San Rafael, CA. It is widely used for making 3D animations, interactive games, visual effects for movies and industrial design models, games and images.
