Students will have to study topics from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics for Joint Entrance Examination-Advanced.
There are 2 papers in the exam, both have questions from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Each paper is three hours in duration. Appearing for both papers is compulsory. The question papers will consist of questions designed to test the reasoning, comprehension, and analytical ability of students.

Joint Entrance Examination-Advanced is the only entrance exam that opens the gates of Indian Institutes of Technology admissions in undergraduate courses leading to a bachelor's degree, Integrated master's degree, or Bachelor-Master Dual Degree in Engineering, Science, or Architecture. Joint Entrance Examination Advanced is a national-level exam and is the second level that the candidates need to qualify to be part of Indian Institutes of Technology alumni, the first being Joint Entrance Examination-Main. Every year around the top 2.5 lacks Joint Entrance Examination-Main candidates are allowed to seat for this entrance test. The exam is conducted by any one of the 7 Indian Institutes of Technology namely Indian Institutes of Technology Kharagpur, Indian Institutes of Technology Kanpur, Indian Institutes of Technology Madras, Indian Institutes of Technology Delhi, Indian Institutes of Technology Bombay, Indian Institutes of Technology Guwahati, and Indian Institutes of Technology Roorkee or Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, under the aegis of the Joint Admission Board.
Joint Entrance Examination-Advanced qualifying candidates are then offered seats in Indian Institutes of Technology based on their course preference and Joint Entrance Examination-Advanced ranks via a common process by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority. The courses offered by the Indian Institutes of Technology via Joint Entrance Examination-Advanced 2023 are Bachelor of Technology, Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Architecture, Bachelor of Technology and Master of Technology dual degree, Bachelor of Science and Master of Science dual degree, Integrated Master of Technology, and Integrated Master of Science.
