To get IAS, you will have to pass Civil service examination conducted by UPSC. Graduation in any Discipline is the eligibility to apply for civil service. There is age restriction applicable for various castes. For general category , upper age limit is 30, Upper age relaxation of 5 years for SC/ST, 3 Years for OBC and Rtd. Defense personnel etc. available.
There are two parts of civil service examination. First part is prelims which is only screening test. Preliminary is objective test, questions will be from Indian and World History, Indian Constitution, General Knowledge, Current Affairs , Basic English and maths(10th standard level) .
Once you cleared Prelims, you can continue with main examination. Main is descriptive and you can choose any optional subjects from the list. For example,a MBBS Graduate can choose History as his elective subjects. The question will be based on optional topic / subject . Candidates who have passed main are invited for personal interview with UPSC Panel members.
This is crucial, you can expect queries from personal, education, previous employment, current affairs, GK etc. Now candidates are permitted to communicate in their regional language.
After this, you are requested give option for various services such as IAS, IPS,IFS etc. and will get suitable service on the basis of score you have secured . There will be training at Mussory academy and then can join in your cadre
