Why are AME courses so expensive? Is it fair to pay INR 35 lakhs for a 5 year AME programme and how does one ensure that there is good ROI?

Hello, There appears to be some confusion in raising the query. Let me try and remove the confusion and try to throw some light.Aircraft Maintenance Engineering or "AME" courses are not high cost at all. Typically annual expenditure would be about Rs. 1 lakh. It is felt that this is reasonable. Secondly, it's a three year course and not five years course. This is after 10+2 stage. In addition, many institutions have tied up with some university to award a B.Sc degree. So three year B.Sc in AME with Rs.3 lakh expense is surely reasonable. What is perhaps misunderstood is cost of flying training programme. It's definitely expensive. But then one has to complete minimum 200 hours of flying. I am sure against this information, expense of Rs. 35 L will seem reasonable.Yes, one must look into it and in this case it's matching. After AME one can expect a salary of Rs.6-8 L per annum while a pilot can expect to earn around Rs.10-12 L per annum.

Dear, You said it rightly that AME courses are expensive. Not just AME but every course that comes under aviation is expensive. The reason is: (1) Expenditure done by the institution is also high. If you are taking training of flying the plane then it is the duty of academy to give you the airplane modal to demonstrates various experiment and maneuvers. In orders to generate revenue (against applied investment cost), they charge slightly high fees. (2) In India, the cost of aviation instruments and equipment is extremely high because they are imported. This also makes the course expensive. Earlier, Indian Government was not interested in aviation expansion, but now they are alloting high budgets for aerospace & aviation industry. So it is expected that in the coming years, the cost of doing aerospace and aviation course could go cheaper. If you look into details, you have to pay 35 lacs for 5-years means 7 lacs p.a. Now if, after successful completion of your course, when you get placed in any airlines as a pilot your salary will also somewhere around 7 lpa which equals to your previous investment. Hence it's a good deal. To ensure good ROI, you just need to prepare yourself for quality placement. Hope this helps. Good luck.
