This is a very good question. Most of the engineers prefer MBA. There are many reasons for this.
Being an engineer assures that the person is good in logical and analytical skills. Most of the times after working for some years in technical field, there comes stagnancy. At that time having a Masters degree/ post-graduation degree always helps. Also management is required everywhere. So learning MBA after engineering gives them a lot of scope as you are well aware with upcoming technologies along with administration.
Some students in mechanical field do not like the area they have to work in so MBA in operations comes up as a better opt

There are "N" number of reasons for this. The most common one is most the students (mostly CSE/IT engineers) don't know why they did engineering and they are now bored of the IT job. So, they think of MBA as an escape from 9-6 desk job.
Another reason stated in most of the interviews is - being in an MNC I could only see a very small (nano) picture of the business, now I want to see how the business world actually works, want to do more for the organisation by bringing in the businesses or clients.
My take on this is - Change is the only constant. It's always good to learn new things, upgrade yourself and do as much as you can for the s

Engineers often become the primary manager of change with an organization. So they should have the necessary skills required to organize things in a better way. Engineering students are quite good at maths and reasoning. So they're able to find good opportunities in the field of finance. B.Tech is a field where the graduate earns a lot of technical knowledge. Most of the engineers are not able to get a high paid job after their course. Major MNCs are looking for the students who have very good technical and managerial skills. Both managerial and technical knowledge is very useful for a student when working in a multinational company.
Nowadays, B.Tech graduates either go for MBA or for banking jobs because of the salary these fields offer. For B.TECH+MBA graduates, he can use his skills both in technical and management level of the organization.
