    Hi,
Doing MBA after engineering is not a waste of time because technical+management skills together can boost up the personality of a person, they can be effective leader, an entrepreneur but again It depends on personal interest, if they find they are technically good then they should keep on working and prove to be useful asset for the nation.
Any kind of study, engineering or management cannot be called as a waste of time. It depends on the individual choice and the demand of the market. Engineering in modern day generation isn't carrying the same amount of value as it used to carry a decade ago. Most of the engineer's while doing engineering aren't sure about why they are into engineering as they don't understand the importance of the course at that point . It is only during engineering that they understand various skills of management and thus come to get a clinch towards management career's.

The current scenario in India is that 60% students appearing in CAT are from the engineering background. That's because MBA gives a perspective and vision that you need apart from your technical background to work in an organization. Also, to work at a higher level only your technical skills won't help you to achieve that you need all the managerial skills to deal with all the situations you face during your work life and get the best work done by all employee under you, apart from this MBA teaches you how to handle pressure. There are many reasons for engineers to do MBA and not M.Tech. The first reason can be dedicated to those engineers who are working professionals. Being an engineer, why I land up with MBA? It is because MBA will provide with managerial skills and engineering will provide me with technical skills. And both of these skills will help me in my corporate life and hence help me to climb the corporate ladder. The second reason for engineers to do MBA is because at the mid of there engineering or graduation, students realize that it is not their cup of tea so since they are in the mid of there graduation they cannot afford to leave their grad

Engineers, typically, has two options for postgraduation. It's M.Tech or MBA. M.Tech is highly technical and specializes in any one of the technical aspects that they choose. This course, however, narrows down the career options. The career options are usually limited to teaching and a few corporate jobs where they need experts in the particular field or entrepreneurship. However, this is a typical scenario.
Whereas, MBA gives them a lot more options and opportunities to pursue their career.
