How close to the actual CAT 2017
The purpose of CAT 2017 official mock test released by IIM Lucknow is to give idea about the pattern of real CAT 2017 exam. Important points:
Many questions in CAT 2017 official Mock test shows 5 answer options while other questions have only 4 answer options. This anomaly is more in Quant section. There would be only 19 Non MCQ type of questions in CAT 2017 exam divided in 3 sections. VARC 10 Non-MCQs; DILR- 4 Non-MCQs; Quant - 5 Non-MCQs. Last year CAT had 25 Non-MCQs. Official CAT 2017 Mock contains 100 questions
No penalty of negative marking will be applied to wrong answer in Non-MCQs.

Changes mean that CAT as an MBA entrance test, is evolving. It means that Iims still haven't reached an ideal test pattern and may keep experimenting with strategy. As for preparation strategy, aspirants shouldn't change anything. Focus on your strengths and weakness like you planned to. However, exam taking strategy will change. Candidates have to attempt each section for 60 minutes. There's no option of attempting your the strongest section first or last - it's all decided by CAT authorities. Non-MCQ questions are making an entrance this year. Iims haven't revealed any information about it. Irrespective of the difficulty level of non

CAT goes on changing its question topics every year and the forgotton topics on which questions are not asked should not be taken as gone out of syllabus.
