Do you teach basics or do I need some preinstalled knowledge about commerce subject? I will be taking admission for PGDM finance in 2016-18.

Engineers have done pretty well. Things are taught from basics only but you will have an advantage if you have some knowledge.

Finance courses will be taught from a basic level but generally are fast paced. While not having a previous finance background will not cripple you in understanding concepts, having a previous experience/ knowledge will help you understand the context better. Finance courses are more quantitative in nature so if you are good at mathematics you can grasp the subject fast. Because of the mathematical rigour involved engineers do fare well in finance courses.
