Hi, each and every expert has suggested their view points, which are absolutely to the point and required. I can only add that, GD is basically judging the candidates leadership quality and out of the box thinking abilities and Personal interviews are for judging listening and speaking abilities along with lateral thinking. Candidates need to look fresh and smiling at the time of GD and PI as opportunity to impress interviewer is very limited.

aru.chopra absolutely taking the lead in initiating the discussion is good, but at the same time students in the groups should give chance to every one in a group to speak, group discussion is not only about giving one's view, but its is also listening to others view as well.

Group discussion is the place where your leadership skills and co-operative nature will be checked in depth and the best to take the lead is to try initiating the group discussion.

All the major and minors of GD and PI are discussed above by the experts but I think one major point left is GROUP BEHAVIOR. That means DOES the candidate considers him/herselfa part of the group or DOES he/she's there merely to compete.

The focus of a B-school interview can range from specific questions about your job to broad discussions on life. Approach the interview as a conversation to be enjoyed, not as a question-and-answer ordeal. It may be about your hobbies - your recent cross-country trip. This doesn't mean that the interviewers are not serious. It just means that you're being sized up as a person and a future professional in all your dimensions. Do your homework: Have well thought answers for questions such as “What are your strengths? Why are you right for that particular business school? Why is that particular program right for you?” It shows organization and forethought if you know some specifics about the program to which you are applying and can explain why those features fit well with your career goals. Don't Waste Time: Don't waste time discussing things that are already indicated on your application.
