Start your own blog to reach out to people. Decorate small corners of your own home and post before and after photos on the blog. Develop a portfolio and try to find a job in a company that will allow you to work on weekends or as a freelancer at first. Only think of switching when you have some solid contacts in hand. Remember, like in every field, getting first project is the most difficult thing in interior designing too. Housekeeping is a bit different. It means to sweep and scrub the house and keep everything in order, just like a well-trained maid would.
