If Maths is your main subject, then it is compulsory for you to clear it.

6th subject is generally taken when the board has a best 5 out of 6 subjects method of calculating percentage. So if you want to go for any further courses where your mathematics subject marks is required then you can apply to appear for the compartmental examination. Otherwise, it is not required for you to pass in the 6th subject.
    All the best!

Yes, it is mandatory to clear all the backlogs in order to study further. And, to do so you can participate in the supplementary examinations conducted within 3 month of the main examinations.

It is very much mandatory to clear every subject in your course. Then only you will get your score card from your respective school or college. For passing out in that exam you have apply for recounting which means your paper will be checked again and if scores need to be added that will be add. If not you have to write supplementary exam.

If Maths is main subject, you need to clear it but if it is not mandatory and it is just a substitute subject, then you can get a lease to not pass. But still I would recommend you to apply for it as it will help you to improve your overall marks and Maths marks as well.
