    It's not a good idea considering the wide range of opportunities in mechanical engineering. You can work in many fields like thermal, fluid mechanics, automobile, design if you stick with the mechanical branch.

    Mining is very niche branch of engineering with limited opportunities in comparison to mechanical engineering. Mechanical engineers can be employed in all type of industries including services.
