The Placement Scenario in NIT Rourkela is improving every year thanks to the proactive Training and Placement Cell and the new Air Strip that now connects to Rourkela. Electrical Engineering is one of the top branches in the institute in terms of Faculty, Infrastructure, Placement Opportunities. That said, it depends upon the student how well he/she would like to take advantage of all the opportunities that the department in NIT Rourkela has to offer.
You can check the previous year's placement stats of NIT Rourkela here : http://mondaymorning.nitrkl.ac.in/placement-stats

Since Genetic Engineering is a highly research oriented field, a PhD degree is imperative if you want to climb up the ladder at work.
Genetic Engineering scientists and researchers usually find jobs in the research labs of universities and research institutions. Some even join the R&D section of biotech industries. Students with M.Tech or M.Sc degree in Genetic Engineering or Biotechnology with specialization in Genetic Engineering can find jobs in biotech and pharma companies or join universities as research assistants. Some universities in India also hire M.Tech/M.Sc students as lecturers.
