Mahruk, no institute provides placement. Those institutes are said to be providing PLACEMENT ASSISTANCE, who call companies on their premise for selection of passing out students. Each company have their own selection criteria like, minimum 60% in 10th, 12th & up to last semester of degree or they will come to only those colleges who have passed out at least two batches or they are NBA accredited or they are ISO:9000 certified etc etc. College puts up qualified students based on given eligibility criteria to the company HR team who select out of these lot. It is not necessary that all will qualify and it is also not necessary that all qualified will be selected. It is possible that even an IIM student does not get selected because of any of above reason.
Now coming to distance education MBA or any other degree, no institution provides placement assistance. That is why people work hard to score good in CAT/MAT and pay lacs of rupees to get admission in a good B-school as regular candidates.

-Whether you opt for BBA or B.Tech depends on your plan for your career progression.For instance,before selecting a course,you may ask yourself: what position or what kind of job I want to see myself doing in the next few years? Or do I want to pursue a course because I like studying?
-Sometimes,the question 'why' should you do a course is as important as 'what' should you do? You may realize that you have a third option that of PGDHRM (Post Graduate Diploma in Human Resource Management) or Office Management considering your work experience.
-As for correspondence or regular, it depends on your time availability that is how much time can you devote considering that you are a working professional. Again, whether it would help depends on the 'reason' for which you pursue a course irrespective of any age.

Satpal, whenever any organization invites application from candidates, for a particular post, they mention education qualification from government recognized institutions. On behalf of government, agencies like AICTE, UGC and DEC approve curriculum of any institution.
Second thing, no organization questions method of education viz regular, distance mode, private or correspondence. However, while shortlisting candidates, regular candidate will be given preference over others, provided number of candidates applied are more than the available vacancies.
Now, in your case, SMU offers courses which are UGC & DEC approved. Hence, you will be eligible to apply wherever M.Sc. CS is the eligibility, whether central govt., private or state level jobs.
